Choosing a Wedding Limousine - how to make your special day really special

On the most special day in your life, you want more than merely a limo ride to the church…you want your chauffeured limousine to be a memorable and enjoyable experience that is complimentary to the momentous occasion. You want to rest assured that the limousine will show up at the appointed time, obviously, but you also want–and should expect–that limousine to show up in pristine condition. After all, you do not want to sit down in your beautiful wedding gown where alcohol was spilled the night before.

So how do you insure that the limousine service you select will meet, if not exceed, your expectations?

First of all, you should reserve your wedding limousine at least six months in advance (the bachelor and bachelorette parties should be reserved two months in advance). When calling limousine companies do not be eager to go with the lowest price–you usually get what you pay for. Would you buy a diamond ring without first seeing how it looks? Ask to see the company’s limousines before making a decision. A well-maintained vehicle will be free of blemishes, will be free of foul odors, and one you will be proud to be seen in. When reserving your limousine be sure to allow adequate time. Here is where you will want to confer with your photographer to get an estimate of how long it will take him to take the list of pictures you have requested after the ceremony. Limousine companies book their vehicles based on the time frame clients reserve. So if you reserve a limousine from 1-4 p.m. and at 4 o’clock your photographer is still taking pictures you could come out of the church expecting to get into your limousine to be taken to the reception only to find that it has left because it had another engagement at 5 o’clock. Most of the time going over your allotted time is not an issue. You simply pay for an additional hour for the limousine. But this is something you should discuss when making your reservation. Secondly, always check out the year, make and model of the limousine. Most people always prefer a late model limousine which is 1-2 years old. Do not be tricked by the price of the advertisements. Some ads may display a very low price for rentals. Always make sure that if a low price is being offered, will you get a new model limousine? After you have checked out the limousines year make and model, learn about the limousine service. Check to make sure that the vehicle is licensed by the properly regulating agencies. Third, if the limousine company you call does not have a vehicle available, ask them if they can recommend another company. Most legitimate limousine companies know the other companies in the area and know who they are comfortable making recommendations

Fourth, is the chauffeur. Not enough can be said about good chauffeurs. Do you want a person to show up in a disheveled suit or a crisp tuxedo? The chauffeur should mirror the occasion. Will the chauffeur help with your train? Will the chauffeur roll out a red carpet for your wedding? Hopefully, you have chosen a great limousine company and their chauffeur meets your every need. If so, it is customary to tip your chauffeur 20% of the limousine fee.

Fifth, is the limousine itself. Besides being clean and presentable, does the company provide anything inside the limousine like soft drinks, bottled water, ice? (Some limousine companies charge $1.50 for a can of soda.) Will the company provide a bottle of champagne upon request? What about after the wedding. At the very least the limousine should have a “Just Married” sign on it. Some limousine companies even have flowers inside the limousine, along with a gift and balloon for the newlyweds. I hope the above advice comes in handy when planning your wedding. A limousine is a small part of your special day, but with the proper selection the experience will be a great memory for life.
